Eric Robison Reflects On His Time Helping Hurricane Victims In Texas

This past September I was reminded why I hang my license here and serve as designated broker for this great company, Keller Williams. In September, we normally have our company convention called Mega Camp in Austin Texas. It’s an opportunity for agents to learn how to grow their business from other successful agents across the nation. Leading up to the event, we were all excited, but things changed due to the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. After Texas officials needed to use the training facilities in Austin as a relief center, KW Corporate quickly decided to shift gears. They turned MegaCamp into "MegaRelief" and asked agents who had planned to attend to be a part of the relief efforts. Over 70 buses were organized daily to take us out to help during that week. We supported a multitude of causes, including food banks, lost pets, clothing drives and ripping apart homes damaged from the hurricane.

I personally was bused to a community outside Sealy, Texas along the Lazy River.  Their river is normally 300 feet wide and the storm surge caused it to grow to 3 miles wide.  People's homes in the area were filled with water to the ceiling and everything had to be ripped out. The damage was overwhelming to see in person versus on TV. One woman touched me with her story of only having time to grab her dogs and go. Everything she had was lost.  By the time we finished working on her home, it was just an exterior wall and gutted to the studs inside. As I carted out wheelbarrows of personal possessions, I would ask her if anything should be kept. She let it all go, except for some dishes she thought could be cleaned.  She picked up a shovel and worked beside us all day and had an amazing positive attitude about rebuilding her life.  I’m glad my company allowed me the opportunity to truly do something that I felt made a difference. In just a few short days, we were able to help the community accomplish a lot.

I was humbled by this experience and gave willingly to our KW Cares fund. This fund was established to help all the KW families affected by Hurricane Harvey, Irma and Maria, as well as the families in Mexico affected by the earthquake.  Keller Williams' goal is to raise 20 million dollars to help all our KW family members affected by these tragedies get back on their feet. I have always believed in giving back and helping those in need.  Seeing it actually happen on such a large scale by my company, Keller Williams, has made me proud to be a part of a company that puts their people first.  This is just one of the many reasons why I feel aligning my team, Union Group Realty, with Keller Williams was the right decision.
